Capel by TudeleyCapel, or Caple, is a parish in Tunbridge district, Kent; near the Southeastern railway, 3 miles SE of Tunbridge. Post town, Tunbridge. Acres, 1,568. Real property in 1860, £3,261. Population in 1861, 611. Houses, 115. The property is much subdivided. The living is a vicarage, annexed to Tudeley, in the diocese of Canterbury. The church is small, but has a steeple. There is a national school. 1 Tudeley and Capel are two separate parishes with separate civil administrations. However, the chapel of St. Thomas à Becket in Capel, historically, was annexed to Tudeley and had the same patron. The two livings were held in plurality and this has resulted in a certain amount of confusion in the registers of the two churches. At different times the registers are a joint record for both churches or are maintained separately, until the 1830's when a separate series begins again for each church, this practice continuing to the present day. 2 1 John Marius Wilson, comp.
