Woodnesborough is, ecclesiastically, in the diocese of Canterbury, in the archdeaconry of Canterbury and in the deanery of Sandwich. The church is named for St. Mary with registers commencing 1561. Woodnesborough, or Winsborough, a village and a parish in Eastry district, Kent. The village stands 1-1/2 miles southwest of Sandwich rail station, is believed to occupy the site of a Roman settlement, and has a post office under Sandwich. The parish includes several villages, and comprises, 2,944 acres. Real property in 1860, £8,801. Population in 1861, 889. Houses, 189. The property is much subdivided. Roman remains have been found near Statenborough [in Eastry parish]; and many Saxon antiquities, on Woodnesborough Hill. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Canterbury.
