Will of Abraham Barham,
of Hollingbourne, Kent, Yeoman, 1799


The following Will has been transcribed and contributed by the kind courtesy of Ros Dunning.

This is the last Will and Testament of me Abraham Barham of the Parish of Hollingbourn in the County of Kent Yeoman who am in health and of sound and disposing mind and understanding

ffirst I recommend my Soul into the hand of Almighty God who gave it and my Body to be decently and frugaly interred the South side of the Grave Stone I placed in the Church Yard of the said Parish of Hollingbourn And I do order and direct that my just Debts and ffuneral expences the Cost of the Proving of my Will and all other incidental charges shall be paid and discharged by my Executors hereinafter named with all convenient speed after my decease

And I do hereby make nominate and appoint Abraham Barham from Chevening in the aforesaid County Land Surveyor and William Wisenden of the of the Parish of Hollingbourn in the said County Carpenter joint Executors in Trust of this my said Will

ffirst I Give and Bequeath to my Brother Thomas Barham and his Heirs the Lease granted to me by the Dean and Chapter of the Cathedral Church of Canterbury consisting of three Messuages or Tenements with the Appurtenances thereunto belonging situate in the Parish of Hollingbourn in the said County of Kent now in the occupation of myself and the said Thomas Barham and William Roberson

and I likewise give and bequeath to my Brother James Barham and to my Brother Uriah Barham to each of them ffifty pounds

and to Robert Barham of Leeds in the County of Kent Shopkeeper and to John Ellis of the Parish of Harrietsham Bricklayer and to William Wisenden of the of the Parish of Hollingbourn aforesaid Carpenter to each of them I give the sum of fforty pounds

And I do give my Servant Maid Sarah ffarmer Twenty Pounds

And I Give John Moore the elder of Harrietsham aforesaid Labourer Ten Pounds

and I Give Elizabeth Bottle Daughter of Richard Bottle Deceased Ten Pounds

And also I give a further Sum of Ten Pounds to the aforesaid William Wisenden for his trouble in Proving this my Will

and I Give to John Champion of the Parish of Milstead in the aforesaid County Wheelwright and his Heirs Two hundred pounds And I likewise Give to Thomas Ellis and to Uriah Ellis to each of them ffifty Pounds

And I also Give to Sarah Ellis Sixty Pounds the three last mentioned persons are Sons and Daughters of the aforesaid John Ellis of Harrietsham

All which several Legacies I direct shall be Paid out of my three Per cent Annuities in the Bank of England Bank Bonds Notes of Hand Monies and all other my Estate to be Paid by my Executor within Six Calendar Months after my decease

All the rest residue and remainder of my Goods Chattels Money and Securities for Money and Security for money Bills Bonds Notes of hand my three Per Cent Annuities and other my Estate of any sort of kindsoever and wheresoever I Give and Bequeath the same and every part thereof unto and to the use of the aforesaid Abram Barham of Chevening in the said County of Kent Land Surveyor his Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns absolute for ever

Signed Sealed and Delivered as my last Will and Testament the twenty eighth of December in the Year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and ninety nine.....
