House. C16, built for William Rucke, pointmaker, died 1592. Timber framed and exposed close-studding with plaster infill, underbuilt with painted brick. Plain tiled roof. Four framed bays, that to end right (return to right elevation) a later addition. Two storeys and continuous jetty on brackets with embattled bressummer in several different moulds. Coved eaves to hipped roof with gablets and stacks to centre right and projecting at end left and to rear right. Four irregularly sized wooden casements on first floor, and 3 canted bays on ground floor with glazing bar sashes. Four panelled door to centre left, and glazed and frosted door at end right. Interior: carved overmantel with cove and cornice.

Will of William Rucke, of Boughton-under-Blean, 15 October 1592
IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN, the fifteenth day of October 1592 and in the 34th year of the reign of our most gracious sovereign, Lady Queen Elizabeth, that now is;
I, WILLIAM RUCK, of the parish of Boughton-under-Blean, in the County of Kent, being sick in body but whole in mind and of good and perfect remembrance, God be thanked therefor, I do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament, in manner and form following:
FIRST, I command my soul into the hands of God my merciful Creator and redeemer. And my body to be buried in the churchyard of the parish of Boughton aforesaid near unto my father as conveniently may be.
FIRST, I will unto the poor people of the said parish of Boughton, thirty shillings of lawful money of England to be distributed at the day and time of my burial according to the discretion of my Executrix.
ITEM, I will to my daughter, AGNES, twenty pounds of lawful money of England to be paid to her at her age of twenty years.
ITEM, I will to my daughter, SUSAN, twenty of like and lawful England money to be paid to her at her age of twenty years.
ITEM, I will to my daughter, MARGARET, twenty pounds of like lawful money of England to be paid to her at her age of twenty years.
ITEM, I will unto my daughter, ELIZABETH, twenty pounds of like lawful money of England to be paid to her at her age of twenty years.
ITEM, I will unto my daughter, THOMASINE, twenty pounds of like lawful money of England to be paid to her at her age of twenty years
ITEM, I will unto my daughter, JOANE, twenty pounds of like lawful money of England to be paid unto her at her age of twenty years.
AND if it chance that any of my said daughters do die before they come to the full age of twenty years, then I will that her said legacy of twenty pounds shall be equally divided amongst the rest of my said daughters then surviving.
ITEM, I will and give unto GEORGE RUCK, my son, all that my messuage or tenement with all the orchards, gardens, edifices, and lands thereto belonging situate and being in Boughton aforesaid which I had given to me and to my heirs forever by the last Will and Testament of WILLIAM RUCK, my father, deceased, to have and to hold the said messuage and all other the premises to him the said George and to his heirs forever at his age of twenty and one years.
AND if it fortune my said son, GEORGE, to die before his said age of twenty-one years then I will and give the said messuage or tenement, orchards, gardens, edifices and lands to EDWARD RUCK, my son, and to his heirs forever.
ITEM, I will and give unto the said EDWARD RUCK, my son, all that my two tenements with their appurtenances situate and being in the parish of St. Margaret within the City of Canterbury which I purchased to me and mine heirs forever of the gift and grant of Richard Bodlyn and William Browne to have and to hold the said tenements with their appurtenances to my said son, EDWARD, and to his heirs forever at his age of twenty-one years.
FURTHER, I will and give unto my said son, EDWARD, all that my parcel of land lying in the Street of Boughton aforesaid which I purchased to me and my heirs forever of the gift and grant of Robert Eyer, Esq. And William Routh, Gent., with the tenement and orchard which I builded [sic] and planted thereupon to have and to hold the said tenement, orchard and land to my said son, EDWARD, and to his heirs forever after the decease of ISABELL, my now wife, so that my will and meaning is that ISABELL, my said wife, shall hold and enjoy my said last rented tenement in Boughton aforesaid with the said last rented orchard and land so bought of the said Robert Eyer and William Routh, during her natural life keeping the reparations of the same and paying yearly the rent thereof due to the chief lords of the see.
ITEM, I will and give to every godson and goddaughter that I have, three pence within one year next after my decease.
ITEM, I will to my servant PAUL SPENCER, four pence. Also, I give to my servants, THOMAS GOODWYN, four pence, to JOHN SCOTT, four pence, to ANNA NORMAN, four pence, to THOMASINE MAXSTED, four pence.
ITEM, I will and give to my said son, GEORGE, five pounds of lawful money of England. And I will and give unto my aforesaid son, EDWARD, ten pounds of like lawful money to be paid to either of them at their several ages of twenty-one years.
AND if any of my said sons shall died before they shall accomplish their said several ages of twenty-one years that then I will his said last legacy to the survivor of them.
AND I will unto ISABELL, my said wife, three pounds of lawful money of England.
The residue of all my goods and chattels unbequeathed, I will and give unto ISABELL, my said wife, the discharging my debts, funeral and legacies, which ISABELL I make sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament.
AND I ordain THOMAS CARTER of Crundall, overseer hereof and I give to him for his pains there to be taken three shillings, four pence.
AND I will that if ISABELL, my wife, do marry, my said overseer shall then take sufficient surety of him that shall marry her, for the true and faithful payment of my said childrens’ portions and other legacies hereby by me given and bequeathed according to the form and effect of this my present Will and Testament.

I, MARGARET PORREDGE, widow of the parish of St Dunstan, being sick in body but of good and perfect remembrance, god be praised therefore, do make my last will and testament in form as followeth. That is to say, first I bequeath my soul and body to Jesus Christ my only saviour and redeemer by whose merits I hope to be saved and by no others, to which Christ Jesus with god the father and god the holy ghost, three persons but one god be all honour and glory world without end amen.
And for my burial I will my body after my decease to be buried in the church of Saint Dunstan's near Canterbury near to my husband John Porredge.
And as concerning my temporal goods which god hath endowed me with all, I give and bequeath in form as followeth, that is to say, first I give and bequeath to Thomas Rucke my son, my second coverlet, one pillow, one blanket and a framed table, one carpet, one silver spoon and 7 pounds of good and lawfull money of England.
Item I give and bequeath to Matthew Rucke my son my best coverlet, a table cloth of Diaper, a drinking cloth of Damask, three silver spoons, one candlestick and 10 pounds of good and lawfull money of England.
Item I give and bequeath to Adam Rucke my son one feather bed, one bolster, one pillow, one silver spoon, one candlestick, one chest and 7 pounds of good and lawfull money of England.
Item I give and bequeath to Syracke Rucke my son one bedstead, one coverlet, one blanket, one caldron, one brass pan, one skimmer, one candlestick, one wine stool, one cushenet, one silver spoon and 7 pounds of good and lawfull money of England.
Item I give and bequeath to Richard Rucke my son one feather bed, one bolster and pillow, one brass pot, one kettle, one chafer with ring, one stupnett, one candlestick ( and he to give Arthur Rucke my son 5 shillings to buy a lesser brass pot ), one joined stool, one chest, one cushenet, one silver spoon and 5 pounds of good and lawfull money of England
Item I give and bequeath to Arthur Rucke my son one bolster, one pillow, one blanket, two kettles, my best stupnett, one chafing dish, one candlestick, one joined stool, one cushenet, a great chest, one silver spoon, my great gold ring? and 5 pounds of good and lawfull money of England.
I will that all my pewter shall equally divided amongst all my sons, Thomas, Matthew, Adam, Syracke, Richard and Arthur.
Item I give and bequeath to Elizabeth Porredge the drinking cloth I had at the division.
Item I will that all the rest of my linen shall be equally divided amongst my said sons, Thomas, Matthew, Adam, Syracke, Richard and Arthur.
Then I will that my best feather bed with the bolster shall be sold if I have not money enough to pay all my legacies. But if I have enough to discharge all my legacies then I will and bequeath the said feather bed with the bolster to Matthew Ruck my son.
Item I give and bequeath to Thomasin Rucke my daughter two cushenets and one coffer.

Item I will that my son Thomas Rucke shall be my sole executor of this my testament and last will and my brother George Carter and Bartholomew Powell my witnesses that this my will be fully performed. In Witness that this is my true last will and testament of the said Margaret Porredge have hereto set my seal. And I give and bequeath the house and garden with the appurtenances called the George in Westgate Street nigh unto the City of Canterbury in the occupation of Thomas Search unto Richard and Arthur my sons late purchased of Richard Purkon? with the garden now in the occupation of Nicholas Montpare?
