      The Will of Austin Dodd of Wychling, yeoman, made 17 January 1772, proved 26 February 1772.

      THIS is the last Will and Testament of me, AUSTEN DODD, of Witchling, in the County of Kent, Yeoman, made this seventeenth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy-two,

      FIRST, I give and bequeath unto my loving brother, WILLIAM DODD, the sum of five pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid to him out of my personal estate by my Executors hereinafter named within three calendar months next after my decease.

      Also, I give and bequeath unto my nephew, AUSTEN DODD, son of my late brother, JOHN DODD, deceased, the sum of fifty pounds of like lawful money to be paid to him out of my personal estate within three calendar months next after my decease.

      Also, I give unto my mother-in-law, MARY PEENE, widow, and her assigns, one annuity or yearly rent charge of five pounds of like lawful money of Great Britain free and clear of and from all taxes, charges and deductions whatsoever to be issuing going forth, had, received and taken out of all that my messuage, tenement or farm and the barns, stables, buildings, oasthouse, lands, woodlands and all other the hereditaments thereunto belonging with their and every of their appurtenances, situate lying and being in the several parishes of Witchling, aforesaid, and Lenham, in the said County of Kent, or in one of them and now in my own occupation. And also out of all other my messuages, lands, tenements and hereditaments whatsoever and wheresoever situate lying or being in the said County of Kent or elsewhere in the Kingdom of Great Britain, to hold the said annuity or yearly rent charge of five pounds unto my said mother-in-law, MARY PEENE, and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life free and clear of and from all taxes, charges and deductions whatsoever and over and above any other annuity or rent charge or other sum or sums of money already payable to her the said MARY PEENE or her assigns out of the said premises or any part thereof, the said annuity or yearly rent charge of five pounds to be paid unto her the said MARY PEENE or her assigns upon the two most usual feats or days of payment in the year (that is to say) the feasts of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Michael the Archangel by even and equal half yearly portions, the first half yearly payment thereof to begin and be made on such of the said feasts as shall next happen after my decease. And in case the said annuity or yearly rent charge of five pounds or any part thereof shall be behind or unpaid by the space of twenty days next after either of the said feasts or days of payment thereof whereon the same ought to be paid, as aforesaid, then it is my will and mind and I do hereby declare that it shall and may be lawful to and for the said MARY PEENE and her assigns during her natural life into and upon my said messuages, lands, tenements and hereditaments or any part thereof to enter and distrain and the distress and distresses then and there found to take, lead, drive, carry away, impound and detain and after keeping such distress or distresses for the space of five days to sell or otherwise to dispose thereof (unless the same shall be sooner replevyed) for and towards payment and satisfaction of the said annuity or yearly rent charge of five pounds hereby given unto the said MARY PEENE as aforesaid, and all arrears thereof and all costs, charges and expenses attending the nonpayment of the same and the making of such distress or distresses.

      Also, I give and devise all and every my said messuages, lands, tenements, hereditaments and all other the premises aforesaid with their and every of their appurtenances unto my said nephew, AUSTEN DODD, and to my nephew, DANIEL DODD, also son of my said late brother, JOHN DODD, and to their several heirs and assigns forever equally to be divided between them share and share alike and they to take as tenants in common and not as joint tenants subject nevertheless to the payment and discharge of such mortgage and other incumbrances as now are or at the time of my decease shall or may be charged thereon or on any part thereof and also to the said annuity or yearly rent charge of five pounds unto the said MARY PEENE and her assigns during her natural life, as aforesaid.

      And as to all the rest and residue of my goods, chattels, ready monies and monies due to me on bonds, bills, notes or otherwise, corn, cattle, husbandry tackle and all other my personal estate and effects of every kind after payment of my just debts, legacies and funeral expenses the costs of proving this my last Will and Testament and other incident charges, I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my said nephews AUSTEN DODD and DANIEL DODD equally to be divided between them share and share alike.

      And lastly I do hereby revoke and make void all former and other Wills and Testaments by me at any time heretofore made and of this my last Will and Testament do constitute and appoint the said AUSTEN DODD and DANIEL DODD Executors.

      IN WITNESS WHEREOF I the said Testator, AUSTEN DODD, have to the first sheet of this my Will (contained in two sheets of paper) set my hand and to the second and last sheet thereof my hand and seal the day and year first abovewritten.

      Testament in the presence of us who at his request in
      his presence and in the presence of each other have
