      The Will of Henry Austen of Wye, yeoman, made 9 May 1699, proved 10 June 1699.


      IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN, I, HENRY AUSTEN, of Wye, in the County of Kent, yeoman, being aged and weak in body but of perfect memory and understanding praised be God therefore, do make and constitute this my last Will and Testament in manner following.

      Imprimis, I give my Soul to God and desire my body may be decently buried near the Austens in the churchyard of Wye aforesaid at the discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned.

      And as to the disposing of my temporal estate I will and bequeath thereof as followeth,

      I will that my house and land in Aldington in the occupation of James Morris to be sold by my Executors hereafter named or the survivor of them as soon as conveniently may be after my decease and that the money which shall arise upon the sale thereof to be equally divided amongst my four sons-in-law viz, VALENTINE AUSTEN, JOHN DOD, LAWRENCE AUSTEN and RICHARD HOGBEN, share and share alike.

      Item, I will, give and bequeath unto my said son-in-law, LAWRENCE AUSTEN the sum of eight pounds of lawful money of England to be paid to him by my Executors within one year after my decease.

      Item, I give and bequeath to my son-in-law aforesaid, RICHARD HOGBEN, the sum of seven pounds and ten shillings of like English money to be paid to him likewise by my Executors within one year after my decease.

      As for the residue of my estate, real and personal, I do give and bequeath the same (after my debts, legacies and funeral expenses paid) to my four sons-in-law aforesaid to be equally divided between them part and part alike the said legacies included.

      Item, I do make, ordain and constitute my two sons-in-law VALENTINE AUSTEN and JOHN DOD, Executors of this my last Will and Testament.

      And lastly, I do hereby revoke all other former Wills by me made.

      Sealed with my seal the ninth day of May one thousand, six hundred ninety and nine.
