Notes |
- On the land tax assessments for Faversham for the years 1780 through 1793 Joseph James appeared as a tenant of property on West Street which had been owned by Richard Hall, Esq. and subsequently by his heirs and later purchasers. No other James individual appears in Faversham and although the evidence is still circumstantial the link between our Sarah James and this fellow grows stronger.

Description James, Joseph, wife Elizabeth, children Elizabeth 17, Henry 9, Hart 6 Preston next Faversham
Conservation Public Unfit for production
The age of Elizabeth, the daughter is incorrect or else the name that should have been recorded was Rebecca. Elizabeth was baptised 13 Jun 1773 and Rebecca on 26 May 1776, the latter one which would fit for being 17 years of age in 1793. One has to question if this was a common error that occurred in the 18th century with so many children being born and dying that one child slowly becomes confused with another.
