In the name of God, Amen. The ninth day of February in the year of ------ of our Sovereign Lord James by the grace of God of England, France and Ireland, King, defender of the faith and the ------- of Scotland.
I, JOHN MILSTED, of Bethersden being sick in body but of good and perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God for it, I do make and ordain this my present Testament and last Will in manner and form following,
First, I bequeath my soul unto the hands of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Bethersden.
Item, I give unto EDWARD MILSTED, my son, five shillings of good and lawful money of England to be paid unto him within one month next after my decease and I give unto the said EDWARD my great chest standing in the chamber whereas I do lay.
Item, I give unto MARY, my daughter, four pounds of good and lawful English money to be paid unto her within one year next after my decease, and I do give unto the said MARY my great----- and the bed and ------- as it stands with all the things thereto belonging furnished in the -------.
Item I give unto JOHN, my son, ten pounds of good and lawful money of England to be paid unto him within one whole year next after my decease.
Item, I give unto MARTHA, my daughter, the sum of four pounds of lawful English money to be paid unto her within one whole year next after my decease, and I give unto her my little brass pot.
Item, I give and bequeath unto STEPHEN, my son, ten pounds of good and lawful money of England to be paid unto him within one year next after my decease, and I give unto him my cupboard standing in the parlour.
Item, I give unto THOMAS, my son, the sum of four pounds of lawful English money to be paid unto him within one whole year next after my decease.
Item, I give unto NICHOLAS, my son, ten pounds of good and lawful money of England to be paid unto him within two whole years next after my decease.
Item, I give unto RICHARD, my son, four pounds of good and lawful money to be paid unto him when he shall accomplish the age of twenty years and a ----standing at my bedside. And it is my will and mind that THOMAS, my son, shall take my son, RICHARD, to dwell with him as a servant and to teach him his trade ---------- until such time as he shall be of the age of twenty years --------- the said RICHARD do like -------- and the said THOMAS in consideration ------- to find the said RICHARD sufficient drink and apparel during the said time. And if the said RICHARD do think that he is not well used by the said THOMAS, his brother, then if he do make it known unto the Executor of this my present Will then it is my will and mind that my Executor shall within one quarter of a year next after such complaint made by the said RICHARD pay and deliver unto the said --------- the ten pounds ----- the said RICHARD ----- to be kept by him until he shall come to his age of twenty years as aforesaid and then to pay it unto the said RICHARD, his heirs or assigns.
I do make and ordain NICHOLAS STICKLAND and LARRANCE SMITH overseers of this my last Will. And my executors shall pay from all ------ charges as they shall charge concerning this my last Will. If my Executors shall not --------- it according to the --------.
The residue of all my goods and chattels whatsoever ------ my debts, legacies and funeral expenses being discharges, I give and bequeath unto those of my children that is to say to EDWARD, MARTHA, JOHN, STEPHEN, THOMAS, NICHOLAS and RICHARD to be equally divided betwixt them.
And I make and ordain THOMAS and STEPHEN my sole Executors.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written.
