Will of Jeffery Rucke, Yeoman, of Elham 1 February 1595/96, proved 28 February 1595/96.
IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN, the third day of February one thousand, five hundred, fourscore and fifteen [1595/96], I, JEFERY RUCKE, of Elham in the County of Kent, yeoman, being sick in body but of good and perfect remembrance, thanks be to God, do make and ordain this my present testament and last Will in manner and form following;
First and before all things I bequeath my soul into the hands of almighty God beseeching him for his son Jesus Christ sake to be mercifull unto me and forgive me all my sins and offences and to receive my soul into his mercy and peace forever and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Elham or elsewhere it shall please almighty God.
Now as concerning my moveable goods which unto I God hath blessed me and made me [one or two words illegible] I bequeath unto ANNIS my wife whom I make my sole Executrix, and also I will that she shall pay unto JOHN RUCKE my son threescore [60] pounds at the age of 24 years and to my daughter ANNE RUCKE forty pounds at the age of twenty years. If either my son or daughter do die before they accomplish their ages I will one of them to be each other’s heir.
THIS IS THE LAST WILL of me the said JEFFERY RUCKE, considering my lands and tenements lying and being in the parishes of Elmsted and Waltham within the County of Kent, aforesaid, and known by the name of Upper Eddyinge I will that AGNES my wife shall have the profits thereof until that JOHN RUCKE my son cometh to his age of four and twenty years she paying the lord’s rent and keeping the reparations and when JOHN my son cometh to the age of four and twenty years, I will he shall have the tenement and land to him and to the heirs of his body lawfully begotten. If it fortune my son to die without heirs of the body lawfully begotten I will the same tenements and lands unto AGNES my wife during her natural life and after her decease unto my daughter and to the heirs of her body lawfully begotten and if it fortune my daughter to die without heirs of her body lawfully begotten then I will the same tenements and lands unto my brother SIMON RUCKE and to his heirs forever.

PROBATUM fuit presens testamtum suprascript[um] coram viro Isaake Rolfe cl[er]ico substitute vene[raba]lis viri m[a]g[ist]ri Stephan Lakes legu[m] d[o]c[t]oris officialis l[egi]time deputat vicesimo octavo die mensis Februarii Anno d[o]m[ino] millimo quingenmo nonagimo quinto iuxta etc. iuratis DANIELIS CLOKE, JOHN CLOKE and HAMONIS BETT ac approbat(um) &c. Onus q(ue) execut(i)o(n)is eiusdem com(m)issu(m) est Executrici in eod[em] testam[en]to no(m)i(n)at(is) primitus in debita iuris forma iurat(is) etc. dat etc.
PROBATE granted of the above written present Will before the Master Isaake Rolfe, clerk, substitute of the Venerable man, Master Stephan Jukes, Doctor of the Laws, officially and legitimately deputed the twenty-eight day of the month of February AD 1595/96 etc. upon the oaths of DANIEL CLOKE, JOHN CLOKE and HAMON BETT and approved etc. and and the burden of execution of the same was granted to AGNES the Executrix named in the said Will first having been sworn in form of law etc.
