Archdeaconry Court of Canterbury, Will of JANE RUCK, of Elham, 4 Nov 1709
IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN, I, JANE RUCK, of Elham in the County of Kent, widow, being sick in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory (God be praised), do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following:
Inprimus: I resign my soul into the hands of almighty God my merciful Creator hoping for salvation only by the merits of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my youngest daughter MARY RUCK my feather bed with the bedstedle as it now stands ready furnished at Mr. Russell in Elham and also my red suite of curtains belonging to the bed I usually lay upon in the house wherein I now dwell and also I give unto her my said daughter MARY, one cheststand in my lodging chamber marked J.R. with all the linen whatsoever which hath for sometime been loockt [sic: locked] up in the same, my other three married daughters having had the like quantity of linen given to each of them heretofore.
Item, I further give and bequeath unto my said daughter MARY, one case of drawers, the looking glass standing over it and a pair of andirons with brass heads being in my lodging chamber and also I give unto her two pewter dishes standing upon the shelf inn the lower room belonging to the house where I now dwell and one copper skillet all which to be delivered unto my said daughter MARY within three months next after my decease by my Executor hereafter named.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my son RICHARD RUCK one chest marked R.R. standing in my lodging chamber and all the linen whatsoever which is now and hath of late been usually lockt [sic] up in it to be delivered to him likewise by my said Executor.
Item, I give unto my three married daughters, ELIZABETH, ANNE and JANE a silver spoon a piece and unto my said daughter MARY my small silver cup.
Item, all the rest of my goods, chattels and personal estate whatsoever my debts, funeral expenses and charges of proving this my said Will being first paid and discharged, I give and devise to be equally divided amongst my said four daughters, ELIZABETH, ANNE, JANE and MARY by my said Executor share and share alike and of this my last Will and Testament I do nominate my very aged friend and [appears to be a line missing] CALEB SHEAF or his assigns, I give and devise the same unto my two children MARY RUCK and RICHARD RUCK, their heirs and assigns forever.
In witness whereof I the said JANE RUCK have hereunto set my hand and seal the fourth day of November in the eighth year of the reign of our sovereign Lady Queen Anne of Great Britain, Anno Domini 1709.
