Will of GABRIEL RUCK, of Milton-next-Sittingbourne, 29 March 1751
IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I, GABRIEL RUCK, of Milton-next-Sittingborne [sic], in the County of Kent, mariner, being as well in good health of body as of sound mind and memory make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following:
IMPRIMUS, I recommend my soul to God my creator not doubting of salvation through his mercy and the merits of my redeemer Christ Jesus and my body I commit to the earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executrix hereinafter named and as to my worldly estate I dispose thereof as follows:
ITEM, I GIVE, DEVISE AND CONFIRM to my loving son, JOHN RUCK, all that my piece or parcel of land now planted with hops containing by estimation three acres, more or less, and also all those oasts and stowages which I lately built on part thereof, with the appurtenances, situate lying and being at or near Sellar [sic] Hill in the parish of Teynham and now in my own occupation to have and to hold unto my son, JOHN RUCK, his heirs and assigns forever.
ITEM, I GIVE AND BEQUEATH to my said son, JOHN RUCK, all those my hair cloath, oast hair, binns, binncloaths, hoppbags, hop dogs, pitchers and all other such things as appertain to or are commonly used in carrying on the business of hop planting and managing the hop ground and (the hop poles in, about or belonging to the said hop ground and the hops grown or growing on the said hop ground excepted).
ITEM, I GIVE AND BEQUEATH unto my daughter, MARY, the wife of JOHN SIMS, all the hop poles that shall be on or about or belonging to my said hop ground at the time of my decease and if it shall so happen that the said hop ground shall be poled at the time of my decease then I GIVE AND BEQUEATH unto my said daughter, MARY, all the crop of hops which shall be that year grown and produced from the said hop ground and that she shall pick and dry the same hops at my said oast and have the use of my hair cloaths, oast hairs, binns, binn cloaths, hop bags, hop dogs and all other such things as appertain to and are necessary to be used in carrying on the business of picking, carrying, curing and bagging of that years hops without paying anything to my said son for the same.
ITEM, I GIVE AND BEQUEATH unto my said daughter, MARY, all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate whatsoever and wheresoever and I do hereby make, constitute and appoint my said daughter, MARY SIMS, sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament and revoke all former Wills and declare this contained in two sheets of paper to be my last Will and Testament.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I, the said GABRIEL RUCK, the Testator have to this my last Will and Testament contained in two sheets of paper, set my hand to the first sheet thereof and to the last sheet thereof set and affixed my hand and seal this twenty-ninth day of March in the twenty-fourth year of the reign of our Sovereign, Lord George the Second, by the grace of God, of Great Britain, France and Ireland King, defender of the faith, etc. and in the year of the Lord one thousand, seven hundred and fifty-one.

The before registered Will of GABRIEL RUCK, deceased was proved the twentieth day of May, 1752 before the Reverend Francis Gregory, Clerk, Surrogate to the worshipful Edward Simpson, Doctor of Laws, official general to the Reverend the Archdeacon of Canterbury, lawfully constituted by the oath of MARY SIMS, sole Executrix named in the said Will being first sworn duly to perform the same, etc.
