Joseph J. Calder

CMSGT Joseph J. Calder, USAF (Ret.), 83, died Sunday, September 29, 2013 at his home in Pensacola, FL. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert George Calder; mother, Willie Viola Steadham; his wife of 59 ½ years, Ida Mae Schenck Calder and his brother, Robert (Bobby) Calder. He is survived by his children, Brenda (Alan) Fox, Bruce Calder, Melody Calder and Mark (Janette) Calder and two siblings, Rosemary Hall and Jimmy Calder. Joe was grandfather to 9 and great-grandfather to 6 children listed in birth order: Karen Calder Fox, Kimberly (Paul) McKeever, Jenna Calder, Elizabeth Ashley Fox, Courtney Calder, Damon Bair, Geoffrey Alan Calder, Corey Calder, Caroline Calder, Cloe Noel Fox, Joseph Bair, Mes'ke Os'ke Calder, Peyton Bair, Ue-rak'ko Os'ke Calder and Ethan Fox McKeever. Joe, at sixteen years of age, following in the steps of his father and two older brothers, enlisted in the military. He found a home and a purpose in the Army Air Force. He spent the next 28 ½ years at duty stations around the county and around the world. During his career he achieved the rank of CMSGT (E-9) and was the Senior Enlisted Advisor for Strategic Air Command (SAC) at the time of his retirement in 1975. After joining the Air Force, Joe met and married 1st Lt. Ida M. Schenck and started a family. Joe was a native of Pensacola and a descendent of the indigenous Eastern Creek Nation. He was a Mason and member of the Grand Lodge of Texas for over 55 years. Joe was a passionate fisherman and routinely participated in local fishing tournaments. Joseph John Calder, embraced by Love for eternity, rest in peace. Funeral Service will be held 10:00am Friday, October 4, 2013 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, followed by interment at Barrancas National Cemetery with military honors.
