- Enlisted Aug 31, 1914 at Ashford, Kent. #499 with the Buffs, posted 4 Sep 1914 with the 6th Battalion. Killed in action 4 Aug 1916 after serving 1 years and 340 days. Plaque and memorial scroll received by his father on 20 Aug 1920. He was 5' 5-1/2 inches tall with good vision in both eyes, weighed 119 pounds and had 3 vaccination marks from childhood. Girth 34 inches when expanded with 2-1/2 inches of expansion capability. Fresh complexion, hazel eyes and brown hair and had a scar related to a hernia. He was deemed fit for service. On 2 Jan 1915 he was awol for 24 hours at Lyminge. No explanation. Awarded 1914-1915 Star and the British War and Victory medals. Father and step-mother resided at 136 Godinton Road, Ashford in 1920.
