Edward married circa 1879 and by 1881 was enumerated as a mariner living at Teynham. With him were his wife, Jessie, born circa 1859 at Faversham, and daughter, Ada B., who had been born during 1880 at Stone.
By 1891 Edward and his family were living at Sandgate, Folkestone. Edward was no longer in the mariner's trade but, rather, working as a general labourer.
By 1901 the family had returned to Faversham and Edward was once again working as an oyster dredger.
