      In the name of God Amen, I Thomas Denne of Lydd in the County of Kent, Grazier, being ill in body but of sound mind, memory, and understanding God be praised, do make and ordain my Last Will and Testament in writing in manner following (that is to say) First I desire that my body may be decently buried at the discretion of my Wife and my executors herein after named. And I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Elizabeth, the full and clear sum of fifty pounds of lawful money of Great Britain yearly and every year for and during the term of her natural life over and above what was settled upon her by me previous to our marriage. And I do direct the said annuity or that yearly sum of fifty pounds to be paid unto her by my said sons and executors herein after named in equal shares and portions by four equal quarterly payments immediately from and after my decease.
      I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah the wife of John Porker of London, Baker, One hundred pounds to be paid to her by my executors, within six months next after my decease. Also I give and bequeath to Thomas Ruck, son of my late daughter Elizabeth Ruck, deceased, the sum of five hundred pounds to be paid unto him by my said executors ... and as soon as he attains the age of one and twenty years. Also, I give and devise unto my four sons John Denne, Richard Denne, David Denne, and William Denne all and singular my messuage, Land, Tenements, hereditaments, and real estate and premises whatsoever and where soever, to hold the said messuage, Land, Tenements, hereditaments, and real estate and premises with the appurtenances unto and the use of the said John Denne, Richard Denne, David Denne and William Denne, their several and respective heirs and assigns forever to have as Tenants in Common and not as joint Tenants.
      And also as to for and remembering my ready .... my stock, cattle, goods, chattels, effects, and personal ... whatsoever and where soever of what sort or kind ... I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof from and after payment of my just debts, funeral, estate and the several legacies herein before mentioned unto my four sons John, Richard, David and William Denne equally to be divided between them share and share alike, and to their several and respective executors and administrators absolutely forever.
      And I do make constitute and ... the said John Denne, Richard Denne, David Denne and William Denne to be executors of this my Will and I also appoint my two friends George Morrison officer of his Majesty’s Customs, and John Shoosmith of the same place, Grazier, guardians and trustees to such of my said four sons as shall be under the age of one and twenty years at the time of my decease for and during their respective minorities with full ... over their persons and states
      and hereby revoke all forever and other wills by me made do declare this to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I the said Thomas Denne have hereunto set my hand and seal this second day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy three. Thomas Denne signed. Signed, sealed, published, and declared by the said Thomas Denne the testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our hands as witnesses Mark Skinner, William Waylett, J. Rolfe.
      My desire is that the five hundred pounds as mentioned in my will give to Thomas Ruck be equally divided betwixt my wife and our daughter Sarah Porker for their sole use and benefit. Thomas Denne
      Declared personally : John Shoosmith of Lydd, Kent and George Harrison of Lydd aforesaid Customs Home Officer and being sworn upon the Holy Evangelists to depose the truth made Oath as follows; That they know and were both acquainted with Thomas Denne late of Lydd in the County of Kent deceased and with his manner and ... of hand writing and subscription having soon did write and subscribe his hand and now ... the paper writing hereunto annexed ...to be and contain a codicil and the ... thereto subscribed to be all of the proper hand writing of the said deceased. John Shoosmith, Geo Morrison. January 14th 1778. The said John Shoosmith and George Morrison were duly sworn to the truth of this affidavit before J. Goodwin.
      This Will was proved at London with a codicil the twenty first day of January in the year of our Lord on thousand seven hundred and seventy eight. Before the Right Worshipful Sir George Bay, Knight, Doctor of Law, Minister Keeper or Commisory of the Prorogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oaths of Richard Denne, John Denne, David Denne and William Denne the sons of the deceased and executors named in the said Will to whom administration was granted of and singular the goods, chattels, and credits of the said deceased, having been first sworn duly to administer that is to say the said Richard Denne before the worshipful William Compton Doctor of Laws and Surrogate of the said Commissary. And the said John Denne, David Denne, and William Denne by commission.
