IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN, the eight day of April in the year of our Lord God one thousand six hundred twenty and five, I, JOHN RUCKE, of the parish of Elham, in the County of Kent, yeoman, being sick in my body but of good and perfect remembrance thanks be to God do make and ordain this my Testament and last Will in manner and form following;
First and before all things I bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God beseeching him for his son Jesus Christ sake to be merciful unto me and to forgive in all my sinns and offences and to receive my soul into his mercy and peace forever and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Elham aforesaid near unto my late decease father and mother or elsewhere it shall please Almighty God.
Now as concerning the worldly wealth where with the Lord hath blessed me and made me a steward of I give and bequeath as followeth:
Item, I give and bequeath unto the poor people of Elham aforesaid ten shillings to be distributed amongst them by my Executrix the day of my burial.
Item, I will that there shall be a sermon preached at my burial by some godly minister and I will that my Executrix shall pay unto him that shall then preach ten shillings for his pains.
Item, I give and bequeath unto DANIEL, my son, all the wodden stuff of what name or names soever it be called which I have in my messuage or tenement commonly called or known by the name of the Corke or the Sign of the Corke, situate in Eleham aforesaid, and my malt mill, copper, tomes, coolveits beer barrells and all other implements and utensils used about brewing in and belonging to my brewhouse at the Cork aforesaid, to be delivered him when he shall accomplish the age of one and twenty years by my Executrix.
Item, I give and bequeath unto JOHN, my son, all the wenchscottings, settlelings, join bedstedles, join tables, join stooles, join formes and livery cubberds standing and being in my now dwelling house, and my press, and three great chests to be delivered him by my Executrix when he shall accomplish the age of one and twenty years.
And if it shall happen that any of my said sons do depart this world before he shall accomplish the age of one and twenty years, then I give that portion which before by this my testament and last Will I have given unto him so dying unto the survivor of them to be devliered him when he shall accomplish the said age of one and twenty years.
Item, I will that my Executrix shall well and sufficiently keep and maintain all the goods and household stuff which I have hereby given and bequeathed well and sufficiently repaired and amneded until my said sons shall accomplish their foresaid ages and then so deliver the same.
Item, I give and bequeath unto AGNES, my daughter, forty pounds of good and lawful money of England to be paid unto her by my Executrix when she shall accomplish the age of twenty years.
Item, I give and bequeath unto AGNES STROWD, my sister the wife of RICHARD STROWD, ten shillings of good and lawful money of England to be paid unto her by my Executrix within one year next after my decease.
All the residue of my moveable goods, money, chattels, plate, annuities and household stuff my debts, legacies and bequeaths being paid I give and bequeath unto GRACE, my wife, and I do make and ordain the said GRACE, my wife, sole Executrix of this my Testament and last Will.
