Broomhill, a parish in the district of Rye and counties of Kent and Sussex; on the coast, near the Ashford and Hastings railway, 4 miles east-by-south of Rye. Post town, Rye. Acres, 3,580; of which 755 are water. Population in 1861, 102. Houses, 22. It is a member of the cinque port of New Romney; and has had no church since 1287. 1 In 1287 a severe storm hit the area sweeping away the port, destroying many fishing vessels and occasioning the loss of many sailors.
