A View of the Parish

Doddington is, ecclesiastically, in the diocese of Canterbury, in the archdeaconry of Canterbury and in the deanery of Ospringe.  Doddington is in the Lathe of Scray and Teynham Hundred.  The church is named for St. John the Baptist with original registers commencing 1589.

Doddington is a parish in Faversham district, Kent;  3-3/4 miles south of Teynham rail station and 5-1/4 miles southeast of Sittingbourne.  It has a post office under Sittingbourne.  Acres, 1,918.  Real property, £3,314.  Population (1861), 476.  House, 97.  The property is divided among a few.

The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Canterbury.  Value, £257 with a habitable glebe house.  Patron, the Archdeacon of Canterbury.  The church is chiefly Norman;  but has a transition Norman chancel and an early English south chancel;  and is in good condition.  There are a Wesleyan chapel and charities of £5.^1
