Ebony

Ebony is, ecclesiastically, in the diocese of Canterbury, in the archdeaconry of Canterbury and in the deanery of North and South Lympne. The church is named for St. Mary the Virgin with original parish registers commencing 1708. [Please note: Archdeacon's Transcripts commence 1566 and Bishop's Transcripts commence 1603.]  The original church was demolished in 1858 and rebuilt with the old stones.

Ebony, is a a parish in Tenterden district, Kent; 3 miles west of Appledore rail station, and 3-3/4 southeast of Tenterden. Post town, Appledore, under Staplehurst. Acres, 2,209. Real property in 1860, £4,660. Population in 1861, 184. Houses, 34. The property is divided among a few.

The living is a perpetual curacy, annexed to the vicarage of Appledore, in the diocese of Canterbury. The church is good.
