Selling

Selling is ecclesiastically in the diocese of Canterbury, in the archdeaconry of Canterbury and in the deanery of Ospringe.  The church is named for St. Mary with registers commencing 1558.

Selling, a village and a parish in Faversham district, Kent.  The village stands near the London, Chatham, and Dover railway, 3-1/2 miles southeast by south of Faversham;  and has a station with telegraph on the railway, a post office under Faversham, and a fair on Whit-Tuesday.  The parish contains also the hamlet of Gushmere, and comprises 2,463 acres.  Real property in 1860, £5,193.  Population in 1861, 575.  Houses, 131.

Selling Court, Woodlands, Luton House, Sole Street House, Owens Court and the Vicarage are chief residences.

Shottendon Hill has a triangular camp of 2 acres, and commands a fine view.

The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Canterbury.  Value, £357 with a habitable glebe house.  Patron, Lord Sondes.  The church is early English, and good.
