"The Settlement of the right of voting is determined at the Barristers' Court, which is to be held annually. All persons registered are to remain so, unless objected to by the Overseers or third persons, when, if they do not support their claim, they will be expunged; and all persons having claims to vote, must send in their claims at the appointed time, of which proper notice is to be given by the Overseers. It appears quite clear by the decisions that have been given, that persons are not bound to attend in person, but they must cause to be producted before the Court proper evidence of their possession or occupation of the property required to entitle them to vote.

The time necessary for occupiers to have been in possession is twelve months clear from the 31st of July in each year; for owners of property by purchase, six months; where property is acquired by descent, marriage or church preferment, the right of voting takes place immediately.

Leasehold Estates must have been occupied, or the rents and profits received, twelve calendar months previous to the last day in July."
